We love to hear about the progress being in green transport and the latest news from Volvo is that Volvo Trucks has introduced its first all-electric commercial truck - the FL Electric. The electric truck has some huge benefits particularly for urban areas, because with less noise pollution there will be more opportunities for transportation to be carried out at night, reducing congestion during the busiest times of day. Studies undertaken in Stockholm has shown truck duties being taken out at night reduces the time it took the trucks to carry out their journey by two-thirds. No exhaust emissions also means the trucks can be used in indoor terminals and low emission zones in cities!

Volvo Trucks have been working with the wider Volvo Group on this project, gaining expertise and assistance most notably from their sister company, Volvo Buses, who have sold over 400 electric buses since production of them started in 2010.

The trucks have a range of up to 300km on a single charge, with their fast charge taking just two hours. The first two produced commercially are now in regular operation with customers in Gothenburg, Sweden, the home of Volvo Trucks. One is being used as a refuse collection vehicle, the other is being used for haulage. Wider sales of the new FL Electric Truck will begin in Europe in 2019, not too long before we could see them on our roads.

Claes Nilsson, President of Volvo Trucks said;

"We're immensely proud to present the first in a range of fully electrically-powered Volvo trucks ready for regular traffic. With this model we are making it possible for cities that aim for sustainable urban development to benefit from the advantages of electrified truck transports,"

The company are rightly very pleased with their advancements. This new technology has come a long way and the wide range of new vehicles due to be released could have a huge impact on air quality across the globe. Definitely a change we have been waiting for!
