October has seen a slight decrease in scrap prices and the index shows we are still 44% down on the same period last year. Prices are maintaining some stability this year and we still haven't seen any significant falls recently.

The iron ore index has been quite stable, however Morgan Stanley has predicted a drop in demand and prices before the end of 2016, which of course will affect scrap pricing.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
