Scrap Car Price Update July 2021

Posted on 9th Aug 2021 by Rebecca Currier Posted in: Latest News

After reporting month on month increases to scrap car prices throughout 2021 up to this point, July sees things settle. July saw just a dollar increase, but in percentage terms the average value of a scrap car with CarTakeBack maintained.

July Average Scrap Car Price $500

The $1 increase to the average prices for scrap cars means that were finally at that $500 mark! Plus prices are also up by a considerable 55% compared to July 2020. There’s some uncertainty that prices will hold, with recent Covid lockdowns seen in our cities again, these could impact scrap car prices further into August.

The value of your scrap car is dependent on various factors, including the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition and location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top cars scrapped in July 2021

The top model scrapped – After a month of being in second place in June to the Toyota Corolla, the top spot has been taken back by the Holden Astra as the most commonly scrapped car with CarTakeBack! The Holden Astras scrapped at our recycling centres in July were an average of 17 years old. The average price paid for an Astra was a decent $511, just above the average scrap car value for the month, and 7% higher than the average value in June.

The top 5 makes of car scrapped – Holden again took the top spot of the most common make of vehicle scrapped at CarTakeBack recycling centres. There was little change to the top list, Mitsubishi dropped off from fourth spot and Nissan took its place.
