Scrap Car Price Update September 2021

Posted on 5th Oct 2021 by Rebecca Currier Posted in: Latest News

It’s another boom to scrap car prices in September! After a relatively steady few months, September saw the average value of a scrap car increase by 3%. That increase makes prices the highest we’ve seen this year. Plus that’s three consecutive months where the average value of a scrap car with CarTakeBack has been over $500!

September Average Scrap Car Price $518

A $15 increase month on month is great news for those of you looking to get some quick cash for your car! Prices are also up by a considerable 45% compared to September 2020. These high prices look set to maintain into October, though as always with scrap metal valuations, they can change at any moment. We guarantee your scrap car quote for seven days, so if prices do fall, you’ll still get the top price for your car.

The value of your scrap car is dependent on various factors, including the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition and location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top cars scrapped in September 2021

The top model scrapped – As in July and August, again the Holden Astra was the most frequently scrapped car at CarTakeBack recycling centres. The Holden Astras scrapped with us in August were an average of 19 years old and the average price for an Astra was $562, a slight decrease compared to August’s average price of $594. This decrease is likely because the age of cars scrapped in August was 17, those slightly younger cars would be worth more than the older models seen in September.

The top 5 makes of car scrapped – Holden again took the top spot of the most common make of vehicle scrapped at CarTakeBack recycling centres. There were a few changes to the other cars in the top list.
